Ottawa County starts forensic task force for mobile devices
PORT CLINTON — As more and more criminal investigations involve gathering data from mobile devices — cell phones, tablets, and USB drives — authorities in Ottawa County are ramping up efforts to keep pace with constantly changing technology.
Officials with the Ottawa County prosecutor’s and sheriff’s offices, Port Clinton Police Department, and other local law enforcement agencies have put together a Mobile Forensics Task Force, said James VanEerten, Ottawa County prosecutor.
“(Mobile devices) become pertinent in almost every investigation we do,” he said.
Cell phone searches and data analysis are often instrumental in cases involving child pornography, drug trafficking, overdose death investigations, burglary, and other violent crimes, he said. ..Read more..
