Cybersecurity Startup Duality Let You Have Your Cake And Eat It Too
In cybersecurity, as in life in general, it’s rare that you get to have your cake and eat it too. But startup Duality Technologies guarantees both privacy and utility, enabling the analysis of encrypted data.
In addition to highlighting the duality of its mission, the startup’s name is an inside joke. According to Kurt Rohloff, one of its co-founders, the Duality Principle is part of the complex math underlying its product. With two other co-founders, Shafi Goldwasser and Vinod Vaikuntanathan (both professors at MIT), Rohloff has been involved over the last ten years in the development of Homomorphic Encryption, a relatively new approach to data security that Duality is attempting to commercialize.
Traditionally, you needed a secret key in order to do anything with encrypted data. But Homomorphic Encryption allows for processing and analysis of the encrypted data without having the secret key. The results remain in an encrypted form to be revealed only by the owner of the secret key.
When is it good to have this dual perspective and to be able to analyze encrypted data? ..Read More..
